custom bike project deadline

How to make the Project deadline | Building a custom bike in 121 days

After planning the project outlines and most of the mayor tasks, I have put together this project timeline for building a custom bike in 121 days. There is not a lot of wiggle room. I already tried to find a few more days in some of the tasks. But it seems to me like there is not much slack with all the university courses and projects going on simultaneously. In a few weeks I will know if I can keep this custom bike project deadline.

This timeline, in combination with the mayor tasks, makes the project much more approachable for me. In my head the next 94 days look somewhat like this.

The timeline

  • 2020/12/20 – Have the project approved by the TÜV before leaving for Christmas holidays

  • 2020/12/31 – Finalize the build sheet. Means to decide on all the parts I want to order in the end. Here’s a tutorial on how you can create your own build sheet (coming soon).

  • 2021/01/08 – Order parts in the first week of January 2021

  • 2021/01/22 – Receive parts until the 3rd week of January 2021
    • Since, some parts come from America or are hand crafted, I need to check in the following days when I must order the parts at the latest to make the custom bike project deadline. The handcrafted exhaust by Mass Moto is already ordered. Can’t wait to see it.

  • 2021/01/22 – Prepare the raw-build until all parts have arrived

  • 2021/02/05 – Build the raw-build until the end of the first week of February 2021
    • The raw-build will be a first fit off all parts before the bike will be painted and the engine repaired, etc.
  • 2021/02/07 – Take the bike completely apart

  • 2021/02/08 – Bring the parts to painter, powder coater, saddler, etc.

  • 2021/03/01 – Repair, check and paint the engine until all parts are back

  • 2021/03/01 – Receive all parts back from specialists

  • 2021/03/20 – Complete the final build

  • 2021/03/21 – Have the bike approved by the TÜV and registered for street use

  • 2021/03/28 – One week holiday to just ride the bike and capture content!

This will be an intense experience. I am confident that it will all work out in the end. It will be a lot of work and a lot of fun.

So, stay tuned to see if I make the tight custom bike project deadline and, as always remember to – Wrench On!
