BMW R80 Custom Bike Project

New Beginnings | The BMW R80 Custom Bike Project

Today is the start of a new project. An exciting new BMW R80 Custom Bike project, to be precise. One of the most important steps on the way to this dream bike is already done. The basis has been found! It is a BMW R80 /7 from 1978 with an 800 ccm boxer engine that generates a whopping 50 hp.

A very special Bike

It is a very special motorcycle with a unique character. When you push the starter button, the R80 boxer engine swings powerfully from left to right during the first few turns of the engine before resting balanced in its center position. Ready to go.

Put in the 1st gear, accelerate, have fun. You can feel the power of the engine and the deep sound instantly lets you smile. The 800ccs develop a lot of power and the shorter gear ratio compared to the 1000cc R100s ensures fast acceleration and a lot of riding fun. Whether on cruisy country roads or winding serpentines. The BMW is simply dreamlike to drive. She really fascinates me.

One of the older BMW R80s

In contrast to the successor models with paralevers, the BMW R80 /7 still has significantly better driving characteristics. The younger models had the problem that they started rocking up and down when accelerating and braking. This issue gave them the nickname “rubber cow” in the common parlance.

The dream BMW R80 Custom Bike

This BMW R80 /7, in contrast, impressed me instantly during the test ride with its engine and driving characteristics. And it is already a feast for the eyes. As soon as the BMW R80 Custom Bike is finished, it will look even better, and I am sure that you will love it too. You can be excited! This will be a one-of-a-kind bike.

So, let’s get this project started! And remember – Wrench On!
